  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¾ cups butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Directions

Put sugar, butter, eggs and vanilla in a bowl and beat until creamy. Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover and put in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour (very important!!).
Set oven to 350 degrees. On a floured surface, roll out dough to 1/8"
thickness. Cut the dough into desired shapes. Bake the cookies on a greased cookie sheet for 7-9 minutes.

Notes

I cream the butter and sugar and then add the egg and vanilla just
because it is habit for me. I don't know if it makes a difference. This
dough is very soft and the cookies will be too as long as you don't go crazy with the flour when you are rolling them out. To help with the stickiness, keep the dough you aren't using in the fridge. Once the butter softens, the dough gets hard to work with. I also bake mine on parchment paper because I HATE cleaning pans!
